Amazing Grace

We all have frustrating days now and then.
For me, if often involves a wrestling match with our office technology or an opportunity that flew my way and then flew away sooner than I could grab it. The big payment we were expecting didn't arrive, but the big bills did. The hard drive on my computer is making grrrrrring noises -- the same hard drive I had in the repair shop last week and supposedly tested out just fine. Grrrrrr, indeed!
Traffic is a mess. I'm low on gas. My favorite radio station is playing a test of the emergency broadcast network. It's raining. We're supposed to barbecue tonight.
I arrive at my garage, finally. Oops. I forgot to pick up the dry cleaning that I promised Kimberly I'd pick up on the way from work. My only "clean" suit at home has a stain on it. A big stain.
I come through the door ready to collapse. I'm ready to uncork some spirits to boost my own.
And then, there she is: Grace.
Couldn't be happier to see me if I was Santa Claus, Barney and the neighborhood ice cream truck driver all rolled into one. Her hugs are triazolam for the troubled dentist's soul. Her smile like fluoride to wash away my mood's decay. Her giggle -- well, there just isn't enough nitrous oxide in the world to compete.
Ten minutes after I arrive all of my anxieties have melted away. I'm reminded of my motivation for heading off each day in the first place: To serve our community and to provide for my family.
Grace. Amazing, indeed!
